Size-Segregated Characteristics of Organic Carbon (OC) and Elemental Carbon (EC) in Marine Aerosol in the Northeastern South China Sea

Organic carbon (OC) and elemental (EC) size-segregated characteristics were analyzed at the junction of sea land (JSL) marine aerosol during navigation along northeastern South China Sea (NSCS), including shallow ocean (NSCS-SO) remote (NSCS-RO), from 3 to 20 March 2016. More than 90% OC EC concentrated in fine particles, mean concentrations 10.1 ± 0.63 3.44 0.82, 2.67 1.27 0.72 0.36, 1.41 0.50 0.40 0.28 μg m−3 PM3.0 JSL, NSCS-SO, NSCS-RO, respectively. Approximately 75–83% 84–98% found PM1.5. Three sampling sites showed similar mass size distributions that had a dominant peak 0.49–0.95 μm range. The diameters (MMDs) 0.65 0.15 0.59 0.16 NSCS-SO respectively, followed by 0.53 0.25 particles JSL. Similar for MMDs. Each particle-size bin higher values all three sites, OC/EC ratios generally more 2.0. secondary organic (SOC) PM1.5 as follows: JSL (5.42 1.35 m−3) > (1.08 1.02 NSCS-RO (0.38 m−3), indicating contribution carbonaceous aerosols is relatively low region.
